Greetings, tech-savvy readers! Welcome to another edition of Tech Thursday. Today, we’re delving into a topic that is fundamental to your online security – crafting secure passwords.

Why Passwords Matter:

In the digital age, passwords are the keys to our online lives. Whether it’s for social media, email, banking, or work related accounts, secure passwords are your first line of defense against cyber threats. So, let’s talk about best practices for creating robust passwords.

  1. Complexity is Key: Your password should be a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters. Avoid easily guessable patterns or words.
  2. Longer is Stronger: The longer your password is, the harder it is to crack. Aim for at least 12 characters.
  3. Unique for Every Account: Never reuse passwords across multiple accounts. If one gets compromised, it shouldn’t jeopardize the others.
  4. Avoid Personal Info: Stay away from using easy accessible information like your name, birthdate, or common words.
  5. Passphrases: Consider using passphrases – combinations of random words – which are easier to remember and just as secure.
  6. Regular Updates: Change your passwords periodically, especially for critical accounts.
  7. Setup MFA (Multi-factor Authentication): Simple and extremely effective, this sends a notification, via an app or cell phone number.
  8. Use a Password Manager: Consider using a reputable password manager to generate and store complex passwords securely. (We are currently researching for a suitable password manager solution for your use and will have one chosen by January 2024.)
